Foh San Dim Sum – Jalan Leong Sim Nam, Ipoh

“ Must we really do this!? It’s FOUR AM IN THE MORNING!” That was the remark I received when I asked my friends to depart to Ipoh from Kuala Lumpur as early as 4 am. “ It’s Hari Raya Ok! There will be loads of people lining up!” That was my reply. Upon arriving here at  6 a.m. sharp we could spot a group of people eagerly waiting for the restaurant to open like hungry zombies hawking for human brains. With a grin I said ,“See! The early bird catches the worm!’ Many were seen restless as the waiters and waitresses walking near the gate, hoping they would open it to let the customers in.

Customers were seen ‘haunting’ outside the restaurant

The moment the gate opened, everyone dashed in to get seats for themselves. We managed to park ourselves under the fan cause it was too hot! Unfortunately, we found out that we were near the place where both waiters and waitresses could be seen dumping  taking plates to serve customers. EWwwwwwwwwww.

Since we were too early, we had to wait for the kitchen to prepare for the food. So we decided to take some ‘artistic’ pictures. For your information, you are advised to wait for the food at the specific counter rather than waiting for the silver platter to come to you as though you are like some princes/princesses. Everything here is first come first serve basis.

A must try dish would be the Century Egg Porridge. Not only the porridge is smooth, the seasonings were just right for both young and the old. Although I am not a big fan of porridge ( I have this apprehension that porridge is eaten only when you are sick), I couldn’t stop myself for having a second helping. A single pot of porridge is enough for 3 to 4 pax (Depending on how big a spoonful of porridge you can eat)

Here are some other dishes you may wish to try…

P1150475

蘿蔔糕 (Lor Bak Ko) or Steamed Radish Cake with dried shrimps, sesame seed, fried shallots served with soy sauce. You could dip it with chilly sauce to spice up the taste.

蝦卷 (Ha Qun, I don’t know how the hell to spell that) or Prawn Rolls served with Mayonnaise. You have to order this!

P1150477

The all-time favourite dim sum 叉燒包 (Char Siu Pao) or Barbeque Pork Buns. Tasty and moist with delicious sauce oozing out from the buns when you take your first bite. Finger licking good.

How could we not notice the 糯米鸡 (Lor Mai Kai) or Steamed Sticky Rice with Chicken. The added sliced Chinese Sausages too! Yum Yum! Mouth watering eh?

This is how it looks like when you ordered too much food!

We had a hard time stuffing all the food we ordered. I was told that REAL Ipoh locals would not have their breakfast here. Who cares! As long as the food is appetizing, we wouldn’t mind to come here again! Oh not to forget, it doesn’t really cost much. We ordered a amount that is able to feed for 6 pax and it only cost us approximately RM80. With Chinese Tea of course!
